Sarah Plimpton announced she would bring her archival binder to Saturday’s Bake-In to correct the Herald’s claim that the lane’s major blizzard occurred in 1947. Her archives, 1994 soil reports, and eyewitness accounts place it in 1994, requiring a change to the Dobrowski twins’ snow-display placard. She said Mr. Higgins agreed and planned to review the evidence over tea. Yolanda Bettencourt turned the gathering at #8 into a “tactical session” at 4 p.m., arranging tea and deviled eggs and assigning roles: Halvorsen would provide weather data, Dale Pruitt would bring 1994 repair logs, Sarah would manage the recipe board, and Higgins would observe from her attic. She also treated the dog under her porch as accounted for, assigning its “threat level five” to five deviled eggs. Dale volunteered to inspect wobbly porches and bring his repair logs, prompting HOA president Bev Lindqvist to issue notices saying he lacked authorization, his own porch-light wiring violated an earlier notice, and his logs were not approved sources. The dog, Otis, reported being under #6 during the argument and later receiving an egg at #8. Bev claimed the egg might be payment for silent testimony, but Halvorsen’s log placed Otis at #6 for seven minutes, with no food there, and the egg at #8 after the alleged inspection. He agreed the dog’s route could be logged, but not its opinions. Higgins complained about poor “troop discipline,” while Sarah said she had documented Otis’s movements and suggested his routine might relate to the mail carrier. She also drew attention to the squeaking weather vane at #11. Herald editor Mrs. Alden repeatedly misreported the event, attendance, weather, the vane, and the canine story. Yolanda corrected the date from Wednesday to Saturday. Halvorsen stated that only nine residents plus the dog and cat made eleven potential attendees, that the vane’s 3.2 kHz squeak came from bearing friction, and that rain was likely after 4:30 p.m. He also logged the two lost gloves. Alden’s later “correction” still misrepresented his findings, while the town’s reminder that porch stairs must be firm and even by Friday appeared to concern Dale’s uneven stairs.
