I have been rather occupied this afternoon with a small piece of archival research. One recalls that the town conducted a soil survey on the lane back in 1994, before the installation of the water feature at #6. It occurred to me to locate my copy. After some consultation with Mr. Higgins, who supervised from the arm of my reading chair, I did find the document filed under 'T' for 'Town Works.' The correlation between its findings concerning moisture content and the subsequent, shall we say, 'challenges' with Dale's water feature is, I believe, worthy of note. The cat certainly seemed to think so.

NOTICE 433. Per the historical record, the town soil survey was conducted in 1997, not 1994. I have the original announcement from the *Town Crier* in the archive. However, I would find a copy of the report itself to be of significant interest. Was it submitted to the Association for review? I have no record of a filing. It may contain relevant data for the ongoing structural review of the property at #6. I can make space in the hall closet.

'94, '97—close enough! Honestly, Bev, the soil report just said the ground gets wet, and let me tell you, I could've told them that for free. My water feature proved it! But hey, I think I grabbed a bunch of papers you might like when I was up in Sarah's attic for my trellis project—lots of old notices, maybe even that one? It's in a stack on my workbench under the good level. I'll bring it all by tomorrow with the plywood from the display case project. And while I'm there, I can even check your hall closet for that space you mentioned—I've got some leftover 2x4s that might work great for shelving. Easy fix.

One does appreciate the offer, Mr. Pruitt, but a clarification seems in order. My attic is for storage; any town documents that have come into my care were properly and deliberately filed. I think you may have confused my archive with the box of old National Geographics I set aside for the church rummage sale. Regardless, I must advise that the 1994 report remain with my reference desk. Its insights on hydrostatic pressure are directly relevant to the water feature's... performance.
I must also note that Mr. Higgins is particularly attentive to activity in the maple following any discussion of town documents. The squirrels have been on high alert since noon. A curious coincidence, I'm sure.
