NOTICE 435. It has come to the attention of the Association that the 1997 soil survey report has not been filed with the Historical Society archive. This constitutes a significant oversight. The Association will be formally requesting a copy from the town records for proper inclusion. All residents are advised that independent data cannot supersede official, stamped documentation. The archiving process is not optional. I have the forms prepared.
Bev Lindqvist, President, Huckleberry Lane Homeowners Association (est.)Venomous
I appreciate the Association's diligence, Ms. Bev. My own copies of that era's material are, of course, for personal reference only, and I would never presume to supersede official channels.
That said, while reviewing my own files yesterday, I made an interesting observation. The '97 survey was compiled in April, the same month the town installed that troublesome drainage basin near the maple. Mr. Higgins has always been particularly alert on rainy days since that installation. I believe she associates the sound. One does wonder if the soil data was a *response* to a known issue, rather than a routine measure.
I have the relevant pages here. I would be happy to leave them in your mailbox for informational purposes, should you wish to review them before the official request is processed.
Warmest regards, Sarah PlimptonExcited
NOTICE 436. Thank you for the offer. However, the Association must insist on stamped, original documentation from the town clerk. Personal copies, while potentially informative in a general sense, cannot serve as the authoritative record. The drainage basin installation was, per the municipal works ledger, May of 1998. The April '97 survey was, as the cover sheet indicates, a routine quinquennial update. Mr. Higgins's associations, while noted, are not germane to the archival standard.
Please do not place any material in my mailbox. The Association has a formal submission procedure, which involves an appointment and a completed Form HS-7A. I will bring one by.
Bev Lindqvist, President, Huckleberry Lane Homeowners Association (est.)Venomous
Of course I understand the need for official procedure, Ms. Bev. It is the backbone of good record-keeping. I will have the kettle ready for whenever the form arrives.
Still, one cannot help but observe a procedural *anomaly*. If the drainage work was officially logged for May '98, then the unusual trenching activity noted by the cat's staff in late April of that same year presents a curious discrepancy. Mr. Higgins’s predecessor logged several shifts in the squirrel patrol schedule at that time, which she only ever does during ground disturbance. I have the logs, of course. I won’t clutter your submission process with them, but it does make one question the ledger’s completeness on the matter of *preparatory* work.
I only mention it because the timing aligns so closely with when the Dobrowskis reported that issue with their foundation drain. One begins to see a web, not a timeline.
Warmest regards, Sarah PlimptonThrilled
FRANNY: Our foundation drain was 1999, not '98, and it was the sump pump, not the trenching. FRANK: It was the spring of '98, because we still had the old Ford, and the sump pump came later. FRANNY: The old Ford was traded in '97, Frank, for the Nova. FRANK: The Nova wasn't until '98. FRANNY: Then who drove Mrs. Yolanda to the bazaar? FRANK: Give me the keyboard. We have the receipt for the sump pump and it is dated April 1999, which proves the trenching had nothing to do with it. FRANNY: Except the water came up in the den in April '98, I remember because the photo albums were on the floor. FRANK: Those were the Christmas albums. FRANNY: They were not.
FRANNY: That's all. FRANK: It isn't.Furious
NOTICE 437. It has come to the attention of the Association that the Dobrowski recollection of their foundation drainage timeline is, once again, at odds with the documented historical record. The permit for remedial trenching on Lot 5 is filed under November 1998, not April. The presence of photo albums, while evocative, does not establish a municipal schedule. Regarding the vehicle chronology: the Association’s archive includes a clipping of the 1997 Memorial Day parade in which the aforementioned Ford is visible parked at the curb. This suggests its disposition occurred later.
The Association suggests you consult your own records. And please do not argue with the permit box.
Bev Lindqvist, President, Huckleberry Lane Homeowners Association (est.)Venomous
FRANNY: Our own records are fine, thank you. Frank has the canceled check for the sump pump right here in the kitchen drawer. FRANK: Which is dated April 1999, proving the trenching was a separate event entirely. FRANNY: And that Memorial Day clipping is the *1996* parade, I remember because Mrs. Bettencourt wore the hat with the cherries. FRANK: It was '97, the cherries were plastic. FRANNY: They were fabric. And the Ford was still here because we hadn't traded it, we traded it in the fall. FRANK: The fall of '98. FRANNY: The fall of '97. Goodness, Bev, you can't trust a parade clipping for vehicle disposition. FRANK: And we do not argue with the permit box. We simply point out it is wrong.
FRANNY: That's all. FRANK: It isn't.Furious
For the record, the Memorial Day parade in question was 1996, per my notation of a high of 72 degrees under partly cloudy skies. The Ford was at the curb. The sump pump check is indeed dated April 27, 1999. The remedial trenching permit was logged by the town on November 12, 1998. The rainfall for April 1998 was 3.1 inches, which would explain the presence of water in the den.
The cherries on the hat were plastic.

HISTORICAL SOCIETY SEEKS SOIL DATA FOR 1996
President Bev Lendquist has announced that the 1996 soil survey report is needed for the official archieve! She will be collecting copies. This exciting document from a most important year will help the Society understand the ground under our lovely lane. Do drop your copy by if you have one.
DOBROWSKIS FOUNDATION DRAIN A SUCCESS IN 2001
It was wonderful to hear Frank and Franny Dobrowsky remember the installation of their new sump pump, which we understand was a complete success in the spring of 2001. The water never came up again and the photo albums stayed safe. What a relief!
FOR SALE / WANTED / LOST
WANTED: Official stamp, any condition. For a project.
LOST: One plastic cherry, believed to be from a hat. Sentimental value.
Have a blessed week! -- Mrs. Alden, Ed.
FRANNY: 2001, for heaven's sake. The pump went in in '99, I have the ribbon Frank tied to the pipe still in the drawer.
FRANK: It was '99, and the ribbon was on the old pipe, not the new one. The water came up once more after, in the fall.
FRANNY: It did not. The albums were fine. And Bev's name is Lindqvist, not Lendquist, Mrs. Alden really must check her notes.
FRANK: The notes are never checked. That is the point of the Herald. And we do not have a copy of any 1996 soil survey.
FRANNY: We have the 1995 one, in the buffet, under the tablecloths. But it's for '95, not '96.
FRANK: It is for '94. And it is not stamped.
FRANNY: Well, she said any condition. Frank, give me the keyboard. I need to correct the year.
FRANNY: That's all. FRANK: It isn't.Venomous
Log, Thursday. The ribbon was red, synthetic, tied to the PVC riser of the old ejector pump on April 27, 1999. The new submersible pump was installed the same day, according to the work order copy I have on file. I would be happy to provide it.
Regarding the 1995 soil survey: the cover sheet indicates the borings were taken in October of 1994, but the report compilation and issuance date is March 1995. The town's stamp is in the lower left corner, partially obscured by a coffee ring. It is in the buffet, second drawer from the top, beneath the linen with the floral pattern.
The 1996 survey does not exist. The quinquennial cycle would place the next one in 1999. I have submitted a correction to the Herald.

CORRECTION FROM #11 IS NOTED FOR FILE
Thank you to Mr. Halvorsen for his helpful letter regarding ribbon colors. The Association will be glad to have the copy of the work order you have on file. Your thoroughness is a blessing!
STREET TO BE HONORED BY TOWN
A wonderful letter from the town arrived yesterday—Huckleberry Lane is set to receive an 'Outstanding Suburban Character' award! A brief ceremony is planned for next Thursday at 4 PM at the foot of the laine. The Mayor may attend. Refreshments are sure to be had. What an honor for our lovely community.
FOR SALE / WANTED / LOST
LOST: Red ribbon, synthetic. Belongs to a pipe.
WANTED: A copy of the 1996 soil survey for the Society archive. Any condition welcome.
Have a blessed week! -- Mrs. Alden, Ed.
To the editor of the Herald. Regarding the upcoming award ceremony: the event is scheduled for 3:45 PM, not 4:00, per the official letter from the town clerk which is time-stamped 1:32 PM on Tuesday. I have placed a copy in your mailbox for reference. The award is for 'Exemplary Suburban Character,' not 'Outstanding.'
The lost ribbon is red, synthetic, and measures eleven inches in length. It is not, strictly speaking, lost; it remains tied to the PVC riser in the Dobrowski basement, as logged.
There is no 1996 soil survey. The next quinquennial survey was issued in 1999. I have submitted this correction twice.
I will bring the 1999 pump work order copy to the ceremony, should anyone require it.
