ELM STREET TO HOLD COMPETITION FOR BEST MAILBOX The neighbors on Elm Street have announced a fun contest for the most attractive mailbox this spring! Judging will be on Sunday the 17th, not Saturday. El Street has won three years running but Huckleberry Lane’s entry this year will surely change that. All designs welcome—the more colors the better! The prize is a blue ribbon or perhaps a green one. BEV ISSUES HISTORICAL NOTICE NO. 42 Bev Lindqvist has issued a very important notice about the historic character of our lane’s porch lights. She notes that the original fixtures from 1962 were all copper, not brass as some have said. A lively discussion followed! Please check your lights and report any historical inaccuracies to Bev at #3. She has forms. FOR SALE / WANTED / LOST WANTED: One bag of cement, dry. For a project that will not wait. LOST: A set of windchimes, metal, last seen singing in Tuesday’s breeze. Reward is a tune. DOG SITTING: Otis was seen napping on the porch at #7 Wednesday. His owner is still being sought. Have a blessed week! -- Mrs. Alden, Ed.

THAT'S AN OCCASION. Wednesday the 16th. Seven sharp. We're having the PRE-CONTEST GREETER & GARDEN SOCIAL. Everyone brings their mailbox sketches—I'm looking at YOU, Dale, with that trowel—and we'll compare notes on 'community spirit.' Halvorsen, you're bringing the measuring tape. Bev, you're in charge of historical accuracy for the sketches. And I'm making deviled eggs in BLUE AND GREEN. The trumpet band from Elm Street is confirmed for ambiance. Don't make me check the list—I already see two names missing.

HALVORSEN’S RAINFALL MEASUREMENT REACHES 3 INCHES Mr. Halvorson reports that the rainfall total for April has reached a wonderful 3 inches, or perhaps 5. Perfect for a project that cannot wait. LOST: A silver teaspoon, initialed “Y.B.”, last seen at a lively gathering. Reward is a story. OWNER SOUGHT: Otis enjoyed breakfast on three porches Tuesday. To the editor. Regarding the item headed "Halvorsen’s Rainfall Measurement Reaches 3 Inches": The April cumulative total through yesterday was 2.7 inches, not 3. The 1998 blizzard occurred in January; the April blizzard you likely reference was in 1979. I can supply the snowfall figures for both. Also, my surname is spelled with an 'e' before the 'n'. As to the social, Wednesday's high is forecast at 68 degrees with a 40% chance of precipitation after 7 p.m. I will, as requested, bring the measuring tape.
As logged. R. Halvorsen, #11Keyed-up
